Encaustic means “to burn in or fuse,” and was First practiced by Greek artists as far back as the 5th century B.C. It is a fitting art form to preserve your most cherished memories.
Every Project will be unique.
Here are the basics:

email me a picture
I can often work from a photo. But if you would like a larger piece, I may need the original.
we will pick a style
Art is personal and I want to work with your kids creation so that it fits your esthetic. Below is a section on “Styles to Consider.”
let's talk substrate
I work on birch wood boards that hang easily on walls, but also sit on surfaces. If you prefer a framed look, I can also work on boards to be mounted in sleek floating frames.
time
Wax takes time. I work in layers and each layer will want time to dry and solidify. Depending on the complexity of style, once I start your piece, I might need a week for the simplest or a few weeks for the complex.
cost
There are many options for your art and the cost will depend on materials and time. Prices range from the tens to the hundreds.

STYLES TO CONSIDER
If you want to keep it pure and simple, I will add nothing but board, wax and heat. If the art is unstructured colors and patterns, a nice option is to create multiple boards using different swaths from the original.

I love it when kids focus on a single character or doodle and make a squillion drawings of it. It becomes their ‘hallmark’ drawing of that age. I keep these pieces simple and either mount a handful of them, each on their own board, or create one larger sequence piece.

In addition to art, I love to write. Weaving narrative into the art is a wonderful way to record some of your kid’s early characteristics. Narratives can either be laser engraved into the wood panels or weaved into the art surface itself using calligraphy or type.

Let’s face it. Kids create masterful, whimsical figures and doodles, but they do not always consider background colors, nuances, and placement. I love to take drawings and work them into a ‘street art’ style where the main subjects are in a field of colors, lines and shapes or patterns.

Gather up doodles, handwriting, and drawings that represent a specific time or span of time in your child’s life. This is generally a larger scale piece that incorporates a slew of art onto one board.
